I don't know why this sticks in my brain, but if ever I am asked about a specific time in history, I always remember William the Conqueror and the battle of Hastings in 1066.
On the advice of my friend Anita, (and Andy), we all drove to the Bayeux Museum to view the 70 meter long embroidered tapestry depicting the conquest.
It was one long scroll meant to tell the story for the people of that time, who were illiterate. Given the fragility of the work of art,
no photos were allowed.
Here are some of the replicas that were for sale.
We took a stroll through town on our way to lunch

We went to a quirky little cafe for lunch called 'Chez Paulette'
It was decorated with retro memorabilia

The day continues tomorrow with a remembrance
