More Northern Fun

Continuing our exploration of the North, we stopped in Andreas to meet an old friend for lunch.

We had lunch at a lovely pub called 'The Grosvenor"
I tried their shrimp baguette....delish!

After lunch, we went to the most northern part of the island
on the tip, called The Point of Ayre
It has fields of  heather and gorse, making it very colourful

The stony beach was baron and calm

It was a very misty day and the fog rolled in over the lighthouse

We headed to the east coast to visit Maughold
First thing we see is ......

We walked through an old church cemetery, to get to the footpath that took us down to the lighthouse

The views were fabulous

The northern part of the Island

We are very familiar with the south of the Island,
so went exploring the northern part.

We started in Peel.

We headed to Laxey where the Woolen Mill was having an art exhibit.

We then headed further north to Ramsey
to take a stroll at the harbour.

Found another one!!

I whipped up a curry for dinner!

Home of rest for retired horses

In keeping with my animal theme, we stopped in to visit the horses at their beautiful, charity run, retirement home.
Meet some of the residents.

My new best friend...he loved the pets!!

He is a HUGE boy!!

These babies used to pull the tram on Douglas Promenade

Too busy to cook, so pizza for dinner!

A nostalgic train ride

On a beautiful sunny day, Christine and I decided to take the historic steam train from Port Erin to the capital of Douglas.

Our steam engine

Our Carriage

The views from the window were picturesque

Once we arrived in Douglas,
we strolled the quay looking for a place for lunch.

Look, we found another wallaby

We found a lovely seafood restaurant called Little Fish cafe.
We sat at  a table outside and ordered our drinks.  We were so happy to have found an outside table overlooking all the boats until we saw a seagull swoop down and help himself to the salad a  man was eating next to us. On to plan B...move inside!
We both ordered 'queenies', which are small scallops found only in IOM waters.  Mine were in a po' boy sandwich and Christine's was in cream sauce....yummo!!

It was a great day...more fun tomorrow.
